With a market predicted to be worth $344 billion up for grabs the cannabis industry is becoming a highly competitive space. Cannabis companies are coming up with strategies to make their brand portfolio the most unique in the market. Major participants such as Canopy Growth (TSE: WEED), Aurora Cannabis (TSE: ACB), and MedMen (CNSX: MMEN) always boast about their production capacity, cultivation capability, the latest innovation, breakthrough technology, and multimillion acquisitions.
Recently, the tough competition has started the trend of celebrity supporters. Whether they are entertainment celebrities or sports celebrities, the support they give boosts customers’ engagement and promotes trust for the cannabis players.
One relatively small name that is a master of this, and other unorthodox marketing techniques, is PotNetwork Holdings Inc (POTN). This growing company clearly sees itself as a real competitor to some of Cannabis’ biggest names.
Celebrity supporters for cannabis brands
The big guys have already netted some well known names. Queen Bey’s other half, Jay-Z Carter has shown interest in the cannabis sector. The hip-hop king is entering into a partnership with California-based Caliva, a dispensary, and delivery service company. Jay-Z will serve as the company’s chief brand strategist. Specifically, he will lead the company’s initiatives of having incarcerated citizens joined the job sector once again through proper training and overall workforce development.
In March, Vancouver-born actor-comedian Seth Rogen and Canadian screenwriter Evan Goldberg have partnered with Ontario-based Canopy Growth in launching a new recreational cannabis company they are calling the Houseplant. The company is expected to be operational later this year.
A month earlier, lifestyle guru, Martha Stewart had also partnered with Canopy Growth. Initially, she will serve as a consultant for the company as it develops cannabis line for pets. The market hopes that she will soon help the company in crafting cannabis edibles as Canada is set to legalize the category come October this year.
Celebrity support is not limited to these high-profile names as sports celebrities have also started rallying behind the cannabis industry. This trend is perhaps the strongest proof of the health benefits of cannabis in terms of managing chronic pains.
In May, Aurora Cannabis and the National Football League, together with the NFL Players Association, formed a joint committee that will conduct an official study on the efficacy of cannabis in pain management among athletes. At the same time, Aurora has entered a similar partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
PotNetwork Holdings have also secured their own celebrity endorsement. Their product the LT Pain Master has the thumbs up from NFL hall of famer Lawerence Taylor.
